Care

Care is a site-specific installation consisting of over 1100 live white rose petals carefully pinned to the wall.

In 2017, I stumbled upon a pile of rose petals in the parking lot of a hospital. Instinctively I picked them up and brought them into my studio. With special care I pinned them to my studio wall, elevating the found petals from something discarded to an art object. As artists, we hold the power to guide attention and thought.

In Care, 2022, I repeated a similar process. I used a simple and repetitious process of pinning, preserving, and displaying flower petals on a wall in order to draw attention to the continuous activities that constitute caretaking. This work alludes to my conceptual understanding of care which was formed by my experience as a child (being cared for) and as an adult (providing care).
